Seville is the capital city of the autonomous region of Andalucía as well as the province with the same name. It is the fourth most populous city in Spain with a population of approximately 703,000 inhabitants. If you were to include the population of other towns and satellite villages, this number would increase to somewhere near to 1.5 million earning it the title of the 31^st most inhabited municipality in the European Union.

The old town in Seville is some 4km 2; it is the largest in Spain and in the top three largest in Europe.

Seville has a harbour even though it is 80 km from the Atlantic coast; this is a river harbour on the river Guadalquivir. Seville (San Pablo Airport) airport is located on the outskirts of the city, it handles approximately 4 million passengers per annum and some 5,000 tonnes of cargo, therefore making it substantially smaller in capacity and popularity compared to Malaga airport.

As a large city, Seville is easily accessible from all parts of Spain, be it via car, bus, or by train including the AVE (High Speed Train).

Seville epitomises all that foreigners think and imagine when the word Spain is mentioned, the traditions, the ferias, the architecture, the atmosphere and the history which spans more than 3000 years. Flamenco, tapas, bull fighting and the feria seem to be a way of life for local residents; this is a great opportunity for curious onlookers to participate in the festivities. One of the longest ferias is the feria de Abril which runs for two weeks after Easter Sunday.

Seville in the summer can be extremely hot with temperatures normally hovering above the 40 degree Celsius mark and on a number of occasions reaching 50 degrees, this is why the best times of the year to visit Seville are during Spring or Autumn months as winter can get chilly too, April, May and June as well as September, October, November and December are good months to visit Seville.

Seville University was founded in 1505 and is ranked as the third university in Spain (within the top 200 in the world) with some 50,000 students.
