Guide To Jerez Airport – XRY

Jerez Airport Terminal

Jerez Airport, also known as La Parra airport, is situated in Southern Spain, eight kilometres north-east of Jerez de la Frontera and around 80 kilometres from Seville. It is most frequently used by visitors from Germany and the UK, though more than a third of passengers arrive on domestic flights. It is a popular airport for tourists travelling to Gibraltar, an island off the Iberian Peninsula in the Mediterranean.

Jerez is a city surrounded by vineyards and wine cellars, and is draped in Spanish tradition, from dancing Andalucian horses to fiery flamenco dancing and bullfights. It is also worth a visit for sports fans as it is the capital of motorcycle racing. Comprising Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture, along with enchanting palaces and churches, the city centre is awash with history and culture, and the relaxed outlook of Jerazanos means it is normal to settle down for dinner of traditional hearty meat dishes accompanied with local sherry after 10pm.

To the west of the airport is Jerez Airport train station, from which two or three trains a day head towards Jerez, Cadiz and Seville. Frequent buses provide a connection between the airport and Jerez, which takes around ten minutes, along with Cadiz and El Puerto de Santa Maria, and there is a taxi service available outside the airport. There are various car rental services allowing tourists to drive to the Costa del Sol in just 90 minutes, a holiday hotspot home to many big popular resorts.

The check-in desks are located inside the passenger terminal to the right of the departures area, and the departure lounge hosts several airline companies, tour operators and shops. After the security checkpoint, restaurants and duty-free shopping are available. In arrivals, there are national and international gates leading to the baggage reclaim hall with its four baggage carousels. There are also car hire desks and information services in the main lobby.

There are restaurant and shopping facilities inside the airport, and seven hotels within close proximity. In addition to this, there are shops selling duty-free items, snacks and gifts in the departures area. Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport.

More than 900,000 passengers arrived at Jerez Airport in 2012, with a significant increase in traffic from the UK following Ryanair’s decision to operate regular flights from London Stansted. Other major airlines serving the airport include AirBerlin and Lufthansa, and it is a popular destination for internal flights from other Spanish cities, many using Iberia. There is one runway which is home to approximately ten flights every hour, with space for six commercial aircraft.

Bars and Restaurants

There is a cafe-bar in the arrivals area for passengers to buy breakfasts, snacks and drinks after a flight, and an Andalusian-themed bar serving bar snacks, tapas and drinks in the boarding area of departures.

Shopping

Duty-free shopping is available after the security checkpoint in departures, providing tobacco, beauty and fragrance products, gifts and more at tax-free prices. There is also a shop selling books, gifts and light refreshments for the flight.

Business Services

There is Wi-Fi throughout the airport in clearly marked areas and several nearby hotels. Taxis are available from outside arrivals.

The airport information services desk is located in the departures hall. First aid can be found in the arrivals hall, and information on lost property can be found by calling 956 150 063. A multi-purpose room is available in the public space, and car rental desks can be found in arrivals.
